Tibbo Technologies Background

Tibbo Technologies is a Taiwan firm that has been producing microprocessor based modules and board-level products for years. These products are programmed in Tibbo Basic, an extremely easy language to use for embedded systems, and Tibbo has now supports applications that are written in C.

The earlier Tibbo products were mostly used for Serial-to-Ethernet applications but their product line is extremely well suited for many web enabled products. While Tibbo is not that well known in the US, many companies have developed products based on Tibbo’s embedded modules. One of the main reasons they have chosen to do so is Tibbo’s development environment called TIDE (for Tibbo Integrated Development Environment); a totally free software development application that in our opinion far exceeds the capabilities of otherĀ  similar embedded processor companies.

Willabay Design first used a board manufactured by Abacom Technologies in Canada that was based on Tibbo’s EM1000 module. As we gained experience in working with the technology, we started to experiment with other Tibbo modules and boards to get a feel for how easy it would be to develop commercial software applications on this base.

A few years ago, Tibbo started releasing small system controllers that were almost equivalent to single board computers that were far more expensive. Tibbo’s products clearly meet the reliability and performance needs for small applications in many fields; including medical, security, and instrumentation. With the advent of their DS110x line of controllers that support wifi and an LCD display for just over $100, we feel that this company is capable of developing products that can compete with anyone. Users can use these little boxes for virtually anything that is IP based.

Tibbo’s recent entry into the kit-in-a box market with their TPS (Tibbo Project System) is another move that is being well received world wide. Software apps such as the ones that Willabay Design has created are easily supported on the basic TPS platform. Both Willabay Design’s AMMS system and EDA portion of the EDMS system are available for the TPP2 platform and the AMMS application is planned for the TPP3 platform.

Willabay Design LLC has been working on Tibbo projects for over 5 years and has programmed applications for many of Tibbo’s programmable modules, board level devices, and programmable controllers. We have built applications that reside on the EM1000, EM1202, and EM500 modules but most of our experience is with the TPS and various Tibbo products that are based on their EM1000 processing module.
